Once you’re in the city, you’re instantly indulged by a plethora of attractions, activities, tours and exhibitions. London is a place where anybody can get lost in the things they love, while learning more about the rich heritage of England’s glorious capital city.

We’ve put together a short guide to introduce you to the most notable places you can visit, and where it’s recommended to stay as you soak in as much sightseeing as possible.

Top attractions

In an ideal world, everyone would come away from London with their own, individual top 10 locations. The best piece of advice you can get is to explore and discover. However, there are some experiences that simply cannot be missed.

Start with an early rise to the top of the iconic London Eye, and witness an inspiring, panoramic view of the enormous city. The London Eye is conveniently located close to Big Ben, Westminster Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace – so, if these are the sort of sights that really take your fancy, you’ll want to take your camera along, too.

Arts, culture and entertainment

No doubt you’ll spend a few pounds before and during your visit, but you could save yourself some money along the way, too. London’s world-famous Natural History Museum is free to enter. It is also located near the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum – and all three of these museums are in South Kensington.

You will also find a variety of multi-arts exhibits at the beautiful Barbican Centre, which is only a short walk from the Museum of London. When it comes to evening entertainment, take your pick from world-famous West End shows, lively comedy gigs, and restaurants, bars and traditional pubs to suit all tastes.

Lots of travel, and the ideal location

Be warned – you’ll be doing a lot of travelling during your time in the city. From using one of the world’s most revered underground networks to riding on London’s distinguished red buses, each trip between sights is part of the London experience.

To make your visit that much easier, it’s best to pick a good spot to start and end each unique day of your visit. You’re not short on choice when looking for City of London hotels where you can enjoy comfort and luxury at the end of your busy day.

Shopping and souvenirs

You’ll encounter plenty of stalls selling miniature red buses and Great Britain flags if that’s your thing, but there are genuine treasures to be uncovered elsewhere. Portobello Road Market, in Notting Hill, is bursting with antiques, while the stalls over at Camden are full of rare, retro clothes and wares.

Camden Market is actually in the top five tourist attractions in the entire city, while people looking for luxury fashion and boutiques will adore the stores at Covent Garden.

Depending on when you visit, you’ll also find a variety of fabulous food and farmers markets that pop up on certain days of the week and at certain times of the year. A trip to London is only limited by the length of your stay, so enjoy every minute.
